Building permits
Anyone who wants to build, extend, use a building for a new purpose or change the outer appearance of a building generally needs to apply for a building permit.
To apply for a building permit you need:
• an application (form), 3 copies
• drawings with dimensions on a scale of 1:100 of all facades, sections and the general layout, 3 copies
• a site plan on a scale of 1:400 (for new residential housing a site map is often required), 3 copies
• approval from the environmental health office for private sewage facilities, if the property does not have mains drainage
Normal processing time for a building permit application is 6-8 weeks. A building permit application may need to be supplemented by a report on water and sewage from the environmental health office. As a rule this report takes six weeks. In such cases you will be contacted by the environmental office.
A building permit has to be commenced within two years and completed within five years of the date of decision.
A fee is charged for a building permit. A fee is also charged for rejected and withdrawn applications
