Pre-school services

For children of 1- 5 years of age

Places in pre-school services are offered to children of 1-5 years of age. As a parent you can choose to have your child in a home daycare nursery or a pre-school.

For the child to have a right to a place it is required that:

the child is at least one year old and resides permanently in the municipality
parent/guardian is gainfully employed or studying
there is a need for special support for the child’s development (School Act Chap. 2a, Sections 6 and 9)
From the autumn term when the child reaches 4 years of age, the child has a right to a place free of charge in pre-school services (in a pre-school or home daycare nursery) during term time
parents/guardian unemployed – limited to 15 hours/week
parent/guardian on parental leave for a younger child – limited to 15 hours/week

Application for a place in a pre-school or home daycare nursery can be made no more than six months before a place is required. The application is made in writing on a special form. Priority is determined by the date of application.
